The waters of Moorea are home to some of the most highly prized game fish globally, and you can easily experience this first-hand by exploring the island’s waterways. What to Expect in Moorea

First and foremost, you should expect a tropical climate in Moorea. The island is located in the central Pacific, just east of Tahiti in French Polynesia, and enjoys a warm, year-round tropical climate. While there are some differences between the seasons, the weather is consistent and always friendly and sunny.

Moorea is home to the best sport fishing in the South Pacific, with various game fish found in the surrounding waters. In the winter months, you can expect to find tufa flats, reef flats, and deep channels where big tuna can be found. In summer, the large hapuka and Maohi can be seen as they migrate through the media and into the shallows to feed. Other popular fish to target include the yellowfin tuna and wahoo.

The rain doesn’t last long and does not usually affect the sport fishing in Moorea. There is some variation in the rainfall, with the heaviest downpours usually in the winter months from November through to February. Summer is the driest season, with only around 12-24 mm of rain falling.

When fishing in Moorea, you will want to choose clothing that can handle the tropical climate. Bring a lightweight, breathable, and easy-to-clean shirt that can take being worn on the boat, plus a light jacket or anorak to protect yourself from the chill in the evenings.

When fishing in Moorea, you must bring all your fishing gear. This includes your rod, reel, lines, tackle box, swivel, and bait. Bring a folding chair or a camp stool to sit on while on the ship, making it easier to enjoy your fishing spot.
