UK climate: rail and air travel disrupted as heatwave recedes

Rail and air passengers have faced every other day of disruption due to the outgoing heatwave, as engineers struggled to repair broken rail lines and air traffic manipulate troubles disrupted flights.

On the railways, passengers traveling on Great Northern, Thameslink, and East Midland Trains were advised to keep away from journeying unless their adventure became essential.

At Britain’s two biggest airports, Heathrow and Gatwick, thunderstorms and chronic warm weather in Europe behind scheduled morning flights. A technical glitch at the principal air traffic manipulates center contributed to delays.
